Ignition Edge
Ignition Edge is Inductive Automation's lightweight edge tier: a focused Ignition gateway that collects and buffers data right at the machine and feeds it upstream.

What it does
- Collects tags directly from local PLCs and devices at the edge.
- Buffers data through connectivity gaps and forwards it to a central Ignition Cloud or full Ignition gateway (store and forward).
- Provides local visualization without the footprint of a full gateway.
When to use it
Choose Ignition Edge for the many-per-fleet role: one lightweight gateway at each machine, line, or remote site, all feeding a central Ignition system. It is the tier that scales out across your equipment.
Running on EmberNet
- Ignition 8.3.8. The App Store chart (ignition-edge 1.4.0) runs Ignition 8.3.8.
- Perspective by default. An Edge gateway runs one visualization module, and the chart sets it to Perspective. Ignition Edge allows two concurrent Perspective sessions. Perspective projects open in their own browser tab from the app's port picker; the gateway web interface opens in EmberCORE.
- More than one per node. Ignition Edge is one of the apps you can deploy several times to the same node, for example one per machine.
- Demo mode until licensed. A new install runs in Ignition's demo mode, which restarts the gateway every two hours. Activate a license before you rely on it in production.
- Sign-in through EmberCORE. When Ignition is turned on for your organization and Fireball has set up EmberCORE sign-in for the gateway, Admins and Engineers who open it arrive already signed in, and your organization's Admins hold the gateway's Administrator role. Operators and Viewers see the gateway's normal login page.
- Ports. The gateway web interface is on 8088 and the Gateway Network on 62541. HTTPS on 8043 is off by default.
Ignition Edge forwards to your central gateway over Flux, so edge data reaches the center without exposing the device to the internet.
