Ignition is Inductive Automation's SCADA and HMI platform. This app is the full edition of the gateway, Ignition 8.3.8, with Vision, Perspective, the Designer, and every module Ignition bundles. It runs on EmberNet's own image, built from Inductive Automation's installers, on x86-64 and ARM64 nodes. It is a separate app from Ignition Edge, with its own card in the App Store.
What it does
- Runs a complete Ignition gateway on site: tags, historian, alarming, reporting, and Vision and Perspective HMI.
- Connects directly to the PLCs and devices at the plant.
- Serves screens to operators locally, with no dependency on a central gateway for day-to-day operation.
When to use it
Choose Ignition when a site needs a full, self-sufficient gateway of its own, such as a plant that runs its own SCADA. For a lightweight gateway at each machine, use Ignition Edge. For one central gateway across every site, Fireball runs Ignition Cloud for you.

First login: change the password
A new gateway's administrator login is user user, password password.
Change it the first time you sign in, before the gateway is reachable by anyone
else.
Running on EmberNet
- Opens in EmberCORE. The gateway web interface (port 8088) opens inside EmberCORE, the same way Ignition Edge does.
- Sign-in through EmberCORE. EmberCORE sign-in works for this gateway the same way it does for Ignition Edge. It is off on a new install, because it needs a key made for that gateway. Once Ignition is turned on for your organization and Fireball has set up sign-in for the gateway, Admins and Engineers who open the gateway arrive already signed in, and your organization's Admins hold the gateway's Administrator role. Operators and Viewers see the gateway's normal login page.
- Give the first boot a few minutes. A new gateway sets up its data volume, commissions itself, and loads every module before it is ready.
- Trial mode until licensed. Without a license, the gateway runs in Ignition's trial mode, which has to be reset every two hours. Activate a license in the gateway's web interface before you rely on it in production.
- One per node. Ignition runs as a single instance per node, with its whole data directory on a 10 GiB persistent volume by default.
- Optional ports. The Gateway Network (8060) and Ignition's OPC UA server (62541) are off by default.
- Backups. Scheduled gateway backups are not part of this app yet. Take backups from the gateway's web interface.
