What it does​

  • Build automation logic by connecting nodes on a visual canvas, with no code required for most flows.
  • Talks to PLCs, MQTT brokers, databases, REST APIs, and cloud services.
  • Suited to protocol bridging, data transformation, and event-driven logic at the edge.

When to use it​

Reach for Node-RED when you need to glue systems together quickly: normalize a sensor feed, trigger an action on a threshold, or bridge a legacy device onto MQTT.

Running on EmberNet​

  • Node-RED can run as more than one instance per node, so you can separate flows by line or function.
  • The first Node-RED on a node gets the node's own network on port 1880, so equipment on the plant LAN can reach it at the node's address. If something on that node already holds 1880, the next instance goes on the pod network instead.
  • Its editor opens directly in EmberCORE.
